Vincent's, November 2009 |
On Wednesday of 6th week, OURLFC and Vincent’s Club were honoured to have legend of 501 tries Martin “Chariots” Offiah join them for a meal and Q&A session. The former Wigan and Widnes star was publicising his new book - “50 of the Best” – a collection of Martin’s personal favourite tries of all time. By 7:30 the lads from Oxford and from Brookes had assembled in Vinnie’s eagerly anticipating the arrival of the man who once scored 10 tries in a match against Leeds. Offiah and his agent arrived shortly after, before an excellent three course meal of the usual Vinnie’s standard was served; the banter and beers flowing freely throughout. |

With appetites sated, the main business of the evening commenced, with Martin fielding questions on topics ranging from tour antics and the scariest players he faced; to some very insightful thoughts regarding game preparation and individual desire. The boys were impressed by Martin’s candour and advice, and he kept them well entertained with anecdotes from a long and illustrious career. |
Finally, the ex-GB winger gladly signed copies of his book that the squad had bought, and posed for photographs before leaving. Conversations in the bar afterwards reflected how much the members of the squad had enjoyed the evening, and were able to take much from it to improve as a team. |
